Alpine City Working Feverishly to Complete Flood Plan

Posted Monday, September 30th 2013 @ 10am  by Talk Radio 105.7 FM / 570 AM

ALPINE CITY OFFICIALS -- IN NORTHERN UTAH COUNTY -- ARE WORKING FULL SPEED, TO DESIGN A FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECT, WITHIN TWO MONTHS, IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL GRANT MONEY.

CITY MANAGER SHANE SORENSON SAYS ALPINE'S GOAL IS TO FINISH THE PLAN BY THANKSGIVING, TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE 750-THOUSAND-DOLLAR GRANT.

EARLIER THIS MONTH, ABOUT A HUNDRED ALPINE RESIDENTS HAD TO BE EVACUATED, AFTER HEAVY RAIN TURNED ROADS INTO RIVERS.

OTHER RESIDENTS WERE ALSO ASKED TO BOIL WATER, AFTER THE STORM CAUSED A WATER MAIN BREAK.

SORENSON SAYS THE CITY'S PROPOSED FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECT IS A DRAIN PIPE, TO DIVERT STORM WATER OUT OF A CANYON.
