Fire Has Now Scorched More Than 42,000 Utah Acres in Less Than a Week

Posted Thursday, August 15th 2013 @ 11am  by Talk Radio 105.7 FM / 570 AM

Just a week ago, we were in the midst of an unexpectedly quiet wildfire season, across Utah.

But a series of dry lightning strikes has changed that picture entirely.

Four blazes have charred more than 42,000 acres, in less than a week.

The largest blaze -- on the Utah-Idaho border -- has claimed more than 24,000 acres.  A Tooele County fire has burned another 13,000 acres.

But the fire causing the most damage is in Summit County, where 14 homes have been burned down, along with about 20 other structures, and some cars and boats.

That blaze was 25% contained -- as of noon, Thursday -- and hundreds of homes remain evacuated.
