Shane Wright was originally charged with first-degree murder in the death of his father, Bryan Wright in 2016. He recently pleaded to a reduced charge of manslaughter.
Bryan Wright had suicidal thoughts and dealt with depression for many years but couldn’t take his own life dues to his religious beliefs. In October of 2016, Bryan Wright asked his son Shane to strangle him with an extension cord which he did.
Shane Wright called 911 immediately after:
"I’m sorry. I just assisted my father with suicide … so, I think, I think my dad’s dead. I put him on his bed. I don’t know, he, I’m sorry, (I'm) just shaking," he said. "I think I’m going through a little bit of a panic attack here this is, this isn’t something your father shouldn’t ask his son to help kill him, that is not something that fathers do."
His father died four days later.
