Listener Katie is donating her kidney to a man she's never met. Here some links below if you're interested in doing something like this. As well as an email as to why she chose Bernard (The man she's giving her kidney to).
I went to NYC and did test for days it seemed. But the staff was very nice. I had a chance to hang out with Bernie and his family everyday I was there. Surgery is scheduled for the 20th and I am set to fly back out on the 13th.
Thanks for letting me come on the show! I really appreciate it.
Here are a few websites i looked at before deciding to donate.
I have attached the first pic I sent to Bernard. Pic of me getting bloodwork drawn and sent to his hospital. I have also attached a picture of Bernard.
Here is the email that i received from his daughter
Hi! My name is Dana Lieberman. I am trying to help find someone willing to give the greatest gift of life, a kidney. My dad is a wonderful husband, father and grandpa to 9 grandchildren. He works full time. My parents were looking forward to the time that he could retire and they would travel and do all the things they enjoy. Now my dad has started dialysis. It is like a part time job. At least it keeps him alive.By helping him,you would be helping my entire family. We get together every Sunday for dinner and we need him around feeling good for as long as possible. I would have given him my kidney, no hesitation, but the doctors said no because of my blood pressure. So now I am trying to find someone to help. All medical expenses are paid for by my dads health insurance. Thank you for considering giving us the greatest gift, life. Dana
From Listener Keri:
Frankie, I was a good samaritan kidney donor just over 10 years ago at 38 years old and I have had no health problems since. It was the best experience! Everyone at the hospital takes really good care of you, and knowing that you saved someone's life gives you a wonderful feeling of well being. The young woman I gave my kidney to is still doing well.
